Configuring Windows Mail for LMi.net

Windows Mail is the email program included in Microsoft Windows Vista, an updated version of Outlook Express. We recommend using the popular free program Mozilla Thunderbird instead. If you wish to use Windows Mail, instructions for setting up your LMi.net email account are as follows:

1. Open Windows Mail. Type in your full name in the "Display Name" box, as in the example below, then click Next.

2. Type in your email address, and click Next.

3. The incoming e-mail server type is "POP3". For the "Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server", use pop.lmi.net ; for the outgoing server, use smtp.lmi.net. When ready, click Next.
(Note that you can only use our SMTP server if you are connecting to the internet via LMi.net. If you use another ISP (such as SBC or Comcast), you will need to use their SMTP server address instead of "smtp.lmi.net.)

5. Your "account name" (also called "username" or "E-mail username") is the actual login name on our server. Typically this is the part of your email address, before "@lmi.net". Type in your password, then click Next.

6. That's it! Click Finish, and Windows Mail will download your email. If you need to add more email accounts, Click on Accounts (under the Tools menu), click "Add", and start from Step 1.
