SpamGauntlet
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I use SpamGauntlet on some of the email addresses under my domain (but not all) ?

Yes. All mail for the domain will need to pass through the Postini servers, but if an email address is not listed, it will pass through without filtering.

Can I use wildcard addressing (i.e. "anything@mydomain.com") with SpamGauntlet?

No. Every email address needs to be specifically added to SpamGauntlet. However, we can add as many email aliases as you need. For example, one email account can be configured to get mail from multiple email addresses, such as "sales@mydomain.com", "info@mydomain.com", "webmaster@mydomain.com", etc...

I'm still getting some spam after signing up for SpamGauntlet.

We would suggest increasing the aggressiveness of the spam filters. You can do this from the Message Center. (click on "Junk Email settings") By default, we set the sensitivity of the filters to 3 (on a scale of 1 to 5). (see screen shot). Try increasing the aggressiveness of the the filers, vases on the type of spam that is getting through. That being said, no filtering system is going to get 100% of the spam.

I still get some obvious spam in my mailbox; why isn't SpamGauntlet catching it?

Most likely the spam was addresses to an lmi.net address. For most domains we host, mail is simply routed to to a local mailbox. For example, "frank@customdomain.com" maps to "frankb@lmi.net". Mail addressed to "frankb@lmi.net" will not go through the Postini servers.

If you do not use the lmi.net domain for your email, we can map it such that you will not get any of this email. Contact out support department to have this done.

Can I use SpamGauntlet with my lmi.net email address?

Although SpamGauntlet is primarily for use by customers with their own domain name, there is a work-around that will allow you to use it with an lmi.net email address.

The work-around involves changing your POP server login name, and then forwarding your email through the Postini mail filters. For example, if your email address is "bernie@lmi.net", then we would change your POP server login to "bernie2". Then we would forward any mail coming to "bernie@lmi.net" to "bernie2@spamgauntlet.com". The email would then get run through the Postini filters, where spam would be removed, and then delivered to "bernie2@lmi.net". So you would need to change the POP server login in your email software, but your actual email address will be the same.

Please contact our Support department if you wish to pursue this option.

I'm concerned that email from the mailing lists I subscribe to will not get delivered to me.

In your Message Center, click on "Junk Email Settings". There you can add specific addresses, or whole domain names, to an Approved Senders list. Also, if you select a message from the quarantined list to get delivered, you will be asked is that sender should be added to your approved sender list.
